By participating in this workshop, you’re not just making a drum; you’re connecting with a rich history of human expression and spirituality.
What You’ll Experience in the Workshop
Our Drum Making Workshop is a comprehensive, hands-on experience that takes you through every step of the drum-making process. You don’t need any prior experience—just an open mind and a willingness to explore.
Customize Your Drum: you will be able to pick your drum frame, drum head which is made from ethically sourced hide (Elk, Buffalo, Bull steer) and stick for your mallet, according to what calls to you. You may also add any Sacred objects you would like to bring for your drum and mallet. (i.e. beads, feathers, crystals, fur).
Customize your drum with unique designs and decorations that reflect your individual style and spiritual journey. This is your opportunity to infuse your drum with your personal story and intentions.
Materials included: the drum frame, drumhead/hide and a stick for your mallet. We source high-quality, eco-friendly materials to ensure your drum is not only beautiful but also durable, which will last for many years, if not a lifetime.
Day 1: Introduction and Intention Setting: we’ll begin the workshop with a welcoming circle where you’ll meet your fellow participants and set your intentions for the workshop. You’ll learn about the history of drums and their significance in various cultures, setting the stage for your Sacred drum making journey.
We will then bless and add any intentions for your personal journey with your drum.
Selecting Materials and Crafting Your Drum: you’ll select the materials for your drum. We offer a variety of options, from different types of various hides for the drum head. You’ll learn how to choose the right materials based on your personal preferences and the type of sound you want to create.
Once you’ve selected your materials, you’ll start crafting your drum.
Crafting Your Drum: this includes stretching the drum head over the frame, securing it, and tuning it to achieve the desired sound. You’ll learn the traditional techniques for tuning and maintaining your drum, ensuring it produces a clear, resonant tone. Three Trees will walk you through every-step of this process.
Upon completion, we will have a drum blessing ceremony before we set the drums out to dry and complete our first day.
Day 2: Drum Completion, Drum Activation and Learn Different Rhythms and Techniques: we’ll begin by checking in on your drum and see how it dried over night. Then you’ll start making your own drum-playing mallet from the stick you chose along with any other adornments before we move into learning different rhythms and techniques for using your drum as a tool for connecting, healing and ceremony, as well as some Sacred songs to sing along with it!
Final Ceremony and Drum Activation: we will conclude the workshop with a final ceremony of the activation of your drum, followed by a drum circle where you’ll have the chance to play your hand crafted drum with others. This communal experience is a powerful way to connect with the rhythms of the group and to celebrate the completion of your drum.
Workshop Times: each day (Sat & Sun) are 12:30-5:00pm giving time for the drum to dry Sat. night.

The price includes: all supplies except for any sacred objects you might bring to add to your drum and mallet.
